October 2023 is Kentucky Intellectual Property Month

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear recently signed a proclamation designating October 2023 as Kentucky Intellectual Property Month.


Intellectual property (IP) is critical to our thriving innovation ecosystem and bolsters Kentucky’s growing economy by incentivizing investment in knowledge and inventions that drive social and economic impact. Through strong public-private partnerships with KY Innovation, the Kentucky Science & Technology Corporation, the Kentucky Intellectual Property Alliance, and many others, the Commonwealth of Kentucky is creating an equitable intellectual property ecosystem that encourages and protects ideas generating the most social good from industry leaders, inventors, creators, and entrepreneurs.

Image of signed KY IP Month Proclamation: WHEREAS, Intellectual property has a significant role in Kentucky's economy; and WHEREAS, The importance of intellectual property is represented by the knowledge, innovations, and inventions generated throughout the state; and WHEREAS, Protecting intellectual property encourages knowledge and development in highdemand fields and supports greater economic investment in innovation and inventions that generate significant social impact and economic returns; and WHEREAS, It has been a primary objective of this administration to develop and support Kentucky's innovative and tech-based businesses to create well-paying and skillbased job opportunities for Kentuckians throughout the Commonwealth; and WHEREAS, Through strong public-private partnerships with KY Innovation, the Kentucky Science & Technology Corporation, the Kentucky Intellectual Property Alliance, and many others, the Commonwealth of Kentucky is creating an equitable intellectual property ecosystem that encourages and protects ideas generating the most social good from industry leaders, inventors and entrepreneurs; NOW, THEREFORE, I, ANDY BESHEAR, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, do hereby proclaim October 2023, as INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY MONTH
